Potholes and road edge breaking up

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 17:04, Thursday 28 May 2026

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 9521866.

THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HERE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT A 'ROAD CONE' HAS RECENTLY BEEN PLACED IN ONE OF THE LARGER POTHOLES. IS THIS ACTION THE COUCIL'S SOLUTION, RATHER THAN REPAIRING THE ROAD SURFACE? IF SO MANY MORE CONES ARE REQUIRED!!

This issue was reported previously in February 2026 and on 15th April 2026. The response from Peterborough City Council was that it would report back within 10 days. To date nothing meaningful has been done to rectify the problems which are getting worse!! As well as being a a general hazard to road users, the potholes are a particular danger to cyclists.

The problem previously reported was as follows:

The following comments relate to Castor Road Marholm, between Marholm Village Hall and Stamford Lodge (entrance to Milton Hall), a distance of approximately 1.5 miles. 1. Numerous potholes of varying size and depth at the edge of the road. 2. The edge of the road is cracking and breaking up in several locations resulting in potholes. 3. The grass verge has been badly damaged in several areas by HGV's being required to use this unsuitable country lane by the Highways Authority restricting access on Walton Road Marholm. 4. Following periods of rain, the road does not drain resulting in large puddles across the carriageway. This is caused by the grass verge damage, resulting in the 'Drainage Grips' which should drain the road into adjacent fields and ditches being totally ineffective.

The above problems occur predominantly towards the village of Marholm.
