  • Thank you for your report.

At present, we’re unable to log this report as an abandoned vehicle because the vehicle is currently taxed. However, we may still be able to refer the matter to our Enforcement Team if the vehicle meets one or more of the criteria listed below.

The Council can only take action to remove a car, van, or other vehicle where it meets the legal definition of an abandoned vehicle, in line with DEFRA guidance. Each report is assessed on an individual basis. When deciding whether a vehicle is abandoned, our Investigating Officer will consider whether:

There is no registered keeper listed with the DVLA The vehicle has remained in the same location for a significant period of time The vehicle is significantly damaged, run‑down, or not roadworthy (for example, flat tyres, missing wheels, broken windows, or severe deterioration) The vehicle has been burnt out One or more number plates are missing

If you believe the vehicle meets any of the above criteria, please send an email to ask@peterborough.gov.uk, quoting your FixMyStreet reference number and provide the relevant details (for example, “significantly damaged,” “unroadworthy,” or “number plate missing”). This information is important, as Enforcement Officers can only investigate reports that meet DEFRA abandoned vehicle guidance.

You can view the DEFRA guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/ guidance/ abandoned-vehicles-council-responsibilities

To Report an Untaxed / SORN Vehicle in good condition please report to DVLA https://www.gov.uk/ report-untaxed-vehicle

To report a vehicle without MOT or insurance call the police on 101 or report online: https://www.cambs.police.uk/ advice/ advice-and-information/ rs/ road-safety/ driving-offences/
