Urgent Safety Hazard: Displaced Manhole Cover

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by TAKASHI IBAYASHI at 10:18, Thursday 26 March 2026

Sent to Peterborough City Council 2 minutes later. Council ref: 9190380.

I am writing to formally report a serious and ongoing safety hazard directly in front of my residence.

The manhole cover on the road has become significantly displaced, and every time a vehicle passes over it, it produces a loud, violent rattling noise. This is not only extremely disruptive, especially during nighttime, but more importantly, it poses a clear risk to public safety.

The condition has worsened over the past few years, and I am now deeply concerned that it could lead to an accident involving vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians if left unaddressed.

I would like to emphasize that this issue has been reported multiple times over the past two years, yet no effective action has been taken. The continued lack of response is unacceptable given the obvious risk involved.

This is no longer a minor maintenance issue—it is a potential accident waiting to happen.

I strongly request that this matter be treated as urgent and that appropriate repairs are carried out as soon as possible. Please also confirm receipt of this report and provide an update on when the issue will be resolved.

If necessary, I am prepared to escalate this matter further, as the current situation is both unsafe and intolerable.

Thank you for your immediate attention.
