Damaged manhole and noise polution
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by TAKASHI IBAYASHI at 22:08, Monday 23 March 2026
Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 9161010.
I am writing to report an ongoing and unresolved issue regarding a displaced manhole cover on the road directly in front of my residence.
This problem has persisted for over two years, despite multiple reports. Each time a vehicle passes over the manhole, it produces a loud metallic impact noise. The frequency of traffic means this disturbance occurs continuously throughout the day and night.
This is no longer a minor inconvenience. The situation has escalated into a serious issue affecting both safety and health:
The displaced cover poses a potential hazard to vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The repeated noise disturbance, particularly at night, has significantly impacted my ability to sleep and maintain normal daily functioning. The prolonged lack of response despite repeated reports is deeply concerning.
Given the duration and severity of this issue, I must request immediate action. At minimum, I would appreciate:
Confirmation that this issue has been formally logged and assigned for repair A clear timeline for when the manhole will be inspected and fixed Temporary mitigation measures if immediate repair is not possible
If this matter continues to be unaddressed, I will have no choice but to escalate the issue further, including formal complaints regarding public safety and environmental noise.
I would appreciate your urgent attention to this matter.
