Cycle lane condition

Reported via mobile in the Public footpath or cyclepath category by Toby chantrell at 20:20, Wednesday 18 February 2026

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8950658.

I am writing to make you aware that the cycle lane along Oundle Road from Orton Longueville to Orton Waterville is in now such terrible condition it poses a threat to public safety.

I cycle along Oundle Road nearly every day to get to Peterborough station and have come accustomed to negotiating my way around the disintegrating and pot-holed cycle lane, however tonight I became the latest victim, being thrown from my bike as my rear tyre blew out and my wheel buckled.

Amazingly there was not a car directly alongside me or it would have resulted in a collision as I was forced into the road.

Should someone be less fortunate than me, (and not know the hazard as well as I do) experience the same issue I would not be surprised to learn of a serious accident.

I am aware of the token repairs completed in the last week or so, however I'm afraid they do not even touch the sides of the pot holes and overall condition of the cycle lane, literally or figuratively.

It is confounding that the main portion of the road has been repaired but the cycle lane has been left to decay and fall to bits, with numerous utilities works within the cycle lane only worsening the situation.

I am now of course to undergo the repair to my bicycle at my own cost I presume, and book taxis to the station for the foreseeable, but I am contacting you more so to advise you to either action the necessary repairs or render the cycle lane unusable and close it off from public use, before there is a serious incident.

I look forward to your response.
