Severe flooding on the road safety issue

Reported via desktop in the Flooded road category anonymously at 11:56, Fri 14 November 2025

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8418615.

I was driving along the A15 towards Peterborough this morning approximately at 8am when a vehicle coming in the other direction went through a puddle and so much spray came up it left me with zero visibility. This happened as the other vehicle was a large building site lorry (the sort the would carry heavy earth or rubble). Both sides of the road were in heavy traffic and the other vehicle had no option but to drive at a consistent speed though the water. The size and weight of the vehicle and its large thick tread tyres meant the large amount of water was displaced. Although the rainfall was heavy not every section of the road suffers with this amount of flooding. the puddles remain long after rain stops and those using the footpath, especially going to or from Hampton Gardens school (as this is the designated safe route to school) get soaked when vehicles cannot avoid driving through the water.

  • Our Drainage Contractors have inspected and cleansed where necessary the road gullies on the opposite side of the carriageway there are no road gullies with surface water draining via the grass verge, during times of heavy rainfall the verges will become saturated this making the infiltration of surface water more difficult thus resulting in temporary areas of standing water..
