Tree roots caused damage to patio
Reported via desktop in the Tree is considered to be causing damage category by David Wright at 15:42, Tue 28 October 2025
Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 8348896.
I am writing to formally notify you of damage to my property which appears to have been caused by the roots of trees located on “the grass verge at the back my property at 123 Coniston Rd Peterborough”
Over time, the roots from these trees have caused significant damage to my patio area, lifting and cracking the paving slabs. The problem has worsened, and I am now unable to safely use parts of the patio.
“Patio slabs have been raised and cracked due to root growth beneath.” The Trees are Large mature maples on the land in front of the pavement directly at the back of my property” We have been emailing and calling you for the last eight years, requesting for the trees to be pollarded, but to no avail. Only to be told you don’t do this. We even offered to pay ourselves for this to be done! But it seems know one really cares. Have spoken to several councillors, have even had Paul Bristow in the back garden who had every sympathy for the mess they causing. I believe these trees are owned and maintained by Peterborough city council , and therefore request that the council investigates this matter and confirms whether these trees are within your responsibility.
If confirmed, I would like to submit a claim for the cost of repairing the damage caused.
