Extremely low branches causing damage

Reported via iOS in the Overgrown trees category by Mr A C Dent at 21:04, Sun 3 August 2025

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7973524.

Extremely low branches causing damage to fences and property in gardens PLUS blocking out sunlight. In high winds the branches are falling off and landing in gardens again causing damage to fences and property. In high winds the trees are seen swaying and upon closer inspection the ground around the tree is becoming more and more unstable which will eventually lead the trees to collapse thus causing more damage to fences and personal property. Falling branches are now more and more common as these trees which are overgrown and covered in creeping ivy (smothering and killing the trees) are now more susceptible to collapsing. These trees are on Peterborough city council land and is Peterborough city council RESPONSIBILITY. Damage to fences and property is now the utmost concern to local residents! It’s not one tree but numerous trees that are situated on PETERBOROUGH CITY COUNCIL LAND.

  • Thanks for your enquiry regarding a council-owned tree.

In accordance with the Peterborough Tree & Woodland Strategy 2018-2028, a qualified tree surveyor has visited the site, assessed your request and concluded that there is no need to undertake tree works.

We don't prune or remove council-owned trees because they are considered too big or too tall unless it is deemed to be dangerous.

All council-owned trees are surveyed by a qualified surveyor for safety every one-to-five years, depending on how much the area surrounding them is used. We also carry out maintenance work if it's needed.
