Tree stump safety / image concern

Reported via mobile in the Problem with tree stumps category anonymously at 09:47, Thursday 20 March 2025

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7307916.

In 2020, the diseased tree was cut down and the stump has been left. Since then, it has become a urinating station for dog walkers and a mini playground for the local children. Children sit on, and climb on the stump unaware that its covered in dog urine. There is usually a large amount of fungus growing on the side which the youths like to kick across the path and into my front garden. Other trees that were removed in the street have had the stumps ground down to remove any risk of injury and to make it much less unsightly. Can this stump be removed please?

  • Works recommended

Thanks for your enquiry regarding a Council owned tree.

A qualified tree surveyor has assessed your request and following a site visit has recommended works. On completion of the works you may feel the task undertaken may not fully address the issue raised. Aragon Direct Services employ qualified tree surveyors to undertake the inspections and all works recommended are in accordance within the guidance contained within the Peterborough Tree & Woodland Strategy 2018-2028.

Continued management of all our trees forms an integral part of this strategy. All Council owned trees are surveyed by a qualified surveyor for safety every one-to-five years, depending on how much the area surrounding them is used. Where inspection identifies maintenance work it is scheduled in accordingly with safety issues forming the highest priority.

For further information please read the Peterborough Tree & Woodland Strategy 2018-2028
