A47/ Sutton Heath Road junction
Reported via mobile in the Traffic sign category anonymously at 08:20, Tue 4 March 2025
Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7221590.
To the right of the junction, the 7.5t weight limit sign that protects Southorpe village and the further ward villages appears to have slipped down the bank and is being obscured by vegetation making the sign unreadable and regularly gets missed by HGV drivers that seek a through route to save them using the A47 & A1- especially during peak times or when TM has been installed. This sign wis virtually non existent in the summer months when the vegetation is in bloom.
The same can be said for the sign on the left hand side of the junction which is obscured by vegetation if you are approaching from the A1 direction.
Other than the blue ADS on the approach from Sutton roundabout this makes Sutton Heath Road appear to be an unrestricted road and is the reason why we are seeing more HGV traffic in our village. Bearing in mind that our village is 20mph, narrow with blind bends and has limited foopaths, this makes for an unsafe environment for residents, especially when the HGVs dont abide by the legal speed limit
I appreciate that this junction will be replaced if the A47 dualling gets the green light, but can I please ask that some temporary traffic management A frames are installed with the 7.5t weight limit sign attached to them so as to make a visual deterrent for HGV drivers.
