Gully problem

Reported via mobile in the Blocked drainage gully category by Gareth brown at 09:01, Friday 10 January 2025

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6958523.

I am having recurring issues with the gully in the carriageway at the front of my house. Whenever there is decent amount of rain it blocks, which then creates a large paddle in the carriageway, cars then spray the water over my wall which water logs my front lawn and creates a river down the drive into the garage. I have opened the gully and removed some leaves and gunk but no improvement. I know corinna from the pc was speaking to one of your highways offices regarding the flooding in the village but it would be good to get the pipe jetted and/ or camera’d to check

  • We have attended site and undertaken some investigations, the gully outfalls into the verge but has a 60 degree bend on the pipe and like most of the gullies in Southorpe would outfall into a individual Soakaway. Soakways are, technically, only as good as the ground conditions they are located, moreso once the ground becomes saturated then the soakaways are unable to take any more flows which may lead to temporary areas of standing water until the ground conditions dry. There is no Anglian Water surface water sewer within Southorpe Village so the only options to dispose of surface water at the time of installation would have been to soakaways or adjacent open ditches. We do plan to have a tanker on site in the foreseeable future to undertake some jetting works to all carriageway gullies.
