Flooding of road

Reported via desktop in the Blocked drainage gully category anonymously at 19:16, Thu 19 December 2024

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6882738.

Th3 drain as in photo was cleared a while back and green shrubs cut back it has been working well. Last night the drain blocked and the wood gets flooded and then the water runs into the road , the road drains are blocked and the road gets flooded, causing an issue with traffic and pedestrians. There are 2 dips in the road where the water runs into it which doesn’t help. A Tarmac job would come in handy. When the leaves drop the drains need cleaning out more frequently. The drain in the photo will need a power rod which cleared it last time.

  • Our Contractors have attended site this afternoon and tried to clear an detritus away from the headwall, which is located in the woods, this is only a small 6 inch pipe and soon blocks with fallen vegetation quickly, resulting in temporary overland flows. Ordinarily the road gullies within Essendyke usually deal with this no problem, however on arrival this afternoon water was flowing beyond the gullies down past 107 Essendyke. This was due to leaves covering the gullies preventing water entering the clear gully pots below. the gullies were all cleansed of the leaves and the overland flows is now being restricted to the corner only. once waters have receded we will return to clear the section headwall and ensure the pipe is visible to enable the free flow of water.
