Surface water not making it to the storm lagoon

Reported via mobile in the Other public drainage issue category by Claire Hickey at 13:10, Mon 23 September 2024

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6504350.

Surface water sewer must be blocked as lagoon not receiving flow. Text from my email:

I wondered if you could help. The storm lagoon that was built for the new Development in Barnack (Sissons Close) isn’t working. See photos this morning after very heavy rain all weekend.

I am a resident on Paynes Field and in Barnack we really struggled in the wet winter of 23/24 with flooding on the main road through Barnack.

I did report to the developer but never got a reply. Is this something you could look into or point me in the right direction?

  • This development is served by more natural drainage in terms of Permeable paving serving both the carriageway and private residential driveways. These are a mixture of attenuation and filtration, once the underground permeable material and subsoil strata is saturated then then flows will start to flow to the Balancing pond, which also has filtration capabilities. The pond is more a safety factor for the one in hundred year storm event and is there to store the water before releasing back into the system. Given we have had fairly dry July/August the sub soils would be dray and as such the rainfall experienced this weekend would have simply been absorbed into the drainage construction material below the permeable block paving. The flooding to Barnack Road and in particular around the junction of Main Street was due to surcharging Anglian Water foul sewers, albeit it was ground water that was being discharged this is an independent system to that of Sisson Close.
