  • The majority of Wittering surface water drainage systems was installed by the Ministry of Defence many years ago, all gullies outfall into soakaways, at times of heavy persistent rainfall these soakaways become waterlogged, therefore with no where for the surface water to discharge to ponding on the carriageway will occur. The surface water drainage on the A1 slip road discharges to a positive pipe system as such can deal with persistent flows more adequately.
