Flooding of all ground floor flats at PE36BW

Flooding on 9 July 2021 of all ground floor flats at Stanwick Court PE36BW. The road surface water from Thorpe Rd and River Lane caused all the ground floor flats to be flooded. The insurance claim amounts to thousands of pounds. Please report how this issue will be resolved to prevent future flooding and the time scale.

  • We are aware of the flooding of the 9th July 2021 that resulted in the roads becoming flooded on Midland Road, Thorpe Road, River Lane , Stanwick Court and Ludlow Mews and Lea Gardens This was a result of the extreme rain event where 92mm of rain fell within a few hours, this simply overwhelmed the drainage network resulting in surface waters sewers surcharging and ultimately resulted in overland flood flows. We have informed Anglian Water regarding these surface water sewers that were surcharging, as they are responsible for there maintenance, they have been working in the area inspecting/cleansing and undertaking cctv surveys, should this prove there are blockages or a build up of silt these will be removed / cleared as part of the investigations works. However like many parts of the city there was simply too much water for the drainage pipe work to drain away. In comparison to the 92mm that fell on the 9th July we have had a maximum of 17.6mm today.
