Chasing on going issue relating to Damage
Reported via desktop in the Other public road issue category anonymously at 17:40, Tue 31 August 2021
Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2970222.
The build of 4 new houses 1a,1b Riverside and two more further down on the right was approved, despite numerous objections from residents. The build resulted in grass verges being destroyed by construction vehicles. The damage is on both sides of the road as you enter Riverside from Peakirk Road and on the grass verge opposite 1a & 1b Riverside. Neither the applicants nor their construction partners have not made good the damage to public land and the Parish Council therefore had discussions with Highways and Council on behalf of residents to seek a solution.
A plan to rectify damage to the road, grass verge way and stop cars from parking on grass verge way causing more damage and hindering access was agreed. We waited patiently during lockdown an in May 2021 we were advised by the council that work would be carried out in approx 4 weeks; we have not been able to get any update since then. As winter approaches the damage becomes greater and the fact the road has not been repaired becomes more of a hazard to pedestrians (holes & puddles).
The grass verge has become a daily parking spot for residents often in preference to using their drive. Visitors to the area are following suit. This means pedestrians and cyclists coming to enjoy the river are forced to walk on the road sometimes hidden from oncoming traffic. The vehicles parked have on occasions included lorries and horse boxes and the grass verge is not equipped for this. At the top of the road the verge has all but been eroded (mainly caused by construction vehicles) but now added to daily by residents cutting the corner and driving along the edge as they swing out to park on their drive.
This issue has been on going for over 2 years and was identified at planning permission stage. Neighbours have suffered inconsiderate use of public land/grass verge for over 18 months since the build began. We are desperate for a resolution and for this to happen quickly whilst laying of turf/seed is still viable.
