The three branches overhang the garden fence blocking light . They shed spiny fruit continuously which I need to vacuum from the lawn. Over the years this is getting worse.

A Tree Surveyor has inspected & found that at present there are no low branches from trees actually overhanging the garden apart from a small Acer near the garage.
The only low overhanging material is from a neighbouring garden.
The rear of property clearance works are on a cyclical program, as such, when the crews are next in, the regrowth will be cut back along with anything growing against the garage. With regards to the top of the tree crowns where there is overhanging material, as per the Trees & Woodland Strategy unfortunately at the present time there are no identifiable arboricultural reasons to justify carrying out any works.
You do have a right to prune the branch back to the boundary of your property; however we would recommend that you use the services of a suitably qualified and insured tree surgeon to carry out this work.
If the trees are in a Conservation Area &/or have Tree Preservation Orders you will need to make an application for permission to carry out any works. Information on applications can be found on the Peterborough City Council's website.
