Tree branches being used to block watercourse

Reported via desktop in the Fallen branch category anonymously at 10:25, Monday 10 May 2021

Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2716130.

I am emailing from the Environment Agency with regards to a report from a local resident of tree branches and debris from Melrose Drive Balancing Pond being used to create dams and bridges across the watercourse. Our Field Team have attended and cleared the brook however have expressed concern that this will only occur again due to the amount of tree branches nearby which can be used to re block the channel. Would it be possible for the area adjacent to the brook to be cleared of woody debris to make it more difficult to block the channel.

  • Works recommended

Thanks for your enquiry regarding a Council owned tree.

A qualified tree surveyor has assessed your request and following a site visit has recommended works. On completion of the works you may feel the task undertaken may not fully address the issue raised. Aragon Direct Services employ qualified tree surveyors to undertake the inspections and all works recommended are in accordance within the guidance contained within the Peterborough Tree & Woodland Strategy 2018-2028.

Continued management of all our trees forms an integral part of this strategy. All Council owned trees are surveyed by a qualified surveyor for safety every one-to-five years, depending on how much the area surrounding them is used. Where inspection identifies maintenance work it is scheduled in accordingly with safety issues forming the highest priority.
