Fallen branch problem
Reported in the Emergency - Fallen branch category anonymously at 09:38, Mon 29 June 2020
Sent to Peterborough City Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2177072.
I have this morning raised a call with your emergency contact centre to advise a huge piece of tree is blocking the highway at the end of Melrose Drive. Attached is an image.
This is the second occasion in little over a month where the highway has been affected by debris from fallen trees.
We have previously expressed our concern about the safety and integrity of the trees at the bottom of Melrose Drive with large branches frequently continuing to break away.
Two weeks ago I had to contact the Environment Agency to advise that during a flash storm branches from the trees had been washed along the water course and had become trapped causing a blockage in the stream.
I accept that the trees are a living item and do shed parts but these are becoming larger and as can be seen from the attached image they are now creating a threat to lives and property. Given how the Council has allowed these trees to grow out of control with no maintenance it will only be a matter of time before someone is injured or property is damaged.
As a minimum I would request that an urgent survey of all the trees alongside road at the bottom of Melrose Drive takes place and that to mitigate against threat to life and damage to property the maintenance of all the trees is undertaken urgently to reduce the height of the trees and mitigate against risk.
