Moth Catetpillars
Reported via iOS in the Problem with moths category by Cllr Chris Harper at 20:12, Wed 13 May 2020
Sent to Peterborough City Council 13 hours, 46 minutes later. Council ref: 2115097.
Please could the footpath shrubbery area be checked as once again there are lots of moth caterpillar nests. These caterpillars have caused serious irritation and breathing problems for some before. If they are harmless then fine, but if they are the type to cause allergic reaction can they be dealt with please. Thank you.

An officer has inspected this right of way and hedges, these webs and caterpillars are harmless and usually last from May to June. The webs slowly disappear over the summer and typically the hedgerow shrubs/trees recover. The adult moths fly later in summer and all look superficially similar, being white or greyish with many small black dots, hence the ermine name.
Ermine moth webs should not be confused with other web-forming larvae, which can be found around the same time, such as the browntail moth which does pose risk to humans
State changed to: No further action
