Resurfacing unsuitable - requires Road Renewal

Reported by Leigh Titman at 09:03, Sat 9 April 2022

Micro Asphalt was applied to School Lane yesterday. I understand Micro Asphalt can look untidy when first laid and that this finish can take up to 6 weeks to settle from use which then will look more presentable. However this type of resurfacing is not suitable for School Lane for the following reasons: 1) It requires heavy use to settle and establish a presentable look and finish, School Lane has only 3 properties which in no way provide enough usage to enable this process to complete. 2) The road surface directly butts up to a paved domestic driveway across the whole width of the road. This requires a perfect straight edge that is level. 3) The adjacent road of 'Rectory Lane' was resurfaced last year, it too has very few dwellings and similar to School Lane is a dead end, Road Renewal was used to the lower end as more appropriate method of resurfacing. 4) School Lane has no path - and so the roadway is used as a path. Again 'Rectory Lane' used Road Renewal as it's road was also its path as Micro Asphalt is unsuitable as a path surface due to (1) above. The Micro Asphalt that has been laid to School Lane is also of a very poor standard (See photos): - Overall surface uneven and inconsistent and too thin or non existent in places - Edges uneven and breaking up - Gaps between edge and paved driveway - Not level between edge and paved driveway - Breakup from wheel turning to show previous surface already (workmen said it was drivable after 20 mins) - Drain edges I understand will be addressed when the iron works are raised but even so the breakup of edge far exceeds an expected distance away from drains. - etc We have waited near 20 years for this work to be done and when it finally is it is not appropriate or satisfactory in any which way. Due to the above School Lane requires 'Road Renewal' as the only appropriate method of resurfacing which will also resolve yesterday's Micro Asphalt attempt. Please advise - Thank you.
