Rare orchids being mowed too early Reported by Paul Young at 18:59, Tue 22 June 2021 This grass verge has a rare colony of Bee Orchids which you have allowed to grow un-mowed to date (thank you) but this week the verge has been scalped. These orchids are not only still in flower but they need around 8 weeks after flowering to set seed and to strengthen for next season. The verge has very low growth anyway and poses no problem if left alone so can I please beg you to leave this verge unmowed through to late Summer ...... preferably September at the earliest ?
